Problems with Soil Moisture Sensor

I am using the soil moisture sensor with Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT and it worked really well untill I applied the OTA update ( v1.00.38) yesterday. After the update I got no connection. I finally removed it from the network by long pressing the reset button. Zigbee2MQTT then paired it again, but after a short time, the connection was lost again and I receive no sensor values any more

Is there any Zigbee router device (ZR) in your Z2M environment? I’m referring to those devices powered by mains electricity, such as smart lights, smart plugs, etc. These devices can function as bridges, connecting remote ZED devices to the dongle. If you have these ZR devices, place them together with the soil moisture sensor and operate them for several times or for a few minutes, and then separate them and place them apart. In this way, when the soil moisture sensor cannot directly connect to the dongle, it can be bridged to the dongle through the ZR device. You can try this first, and please let me know if there are any problems.

I’m also having problems with this Soil Moisture Sensor. Even though I’m on the latest firmware available (1.0.0.38) after a re-pairing is done the device sends data for a few minutes and then suddenly stops sending it. I always have to re-pair the device in Zigbee2MQTT in HA by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. It seems like the device enters in a deep sleep mode from which never wakes up again to send data at regular intervals no matter how close the device is to the Zigbee coordinator. Is 3reality aware of this current issue? At the moment it seems like I bought an useless product who just sits in soil and does nothing.

I am also having this problem, and it seems to be firmware related.

I have two of these sensors in my garden. One has been in place since April, and has been updated to the latest firmware. It averages ~-65 dBm RX power. Randomly, it seems to go to sleep as the others have mentioned - no updates published, values remain static, etc. Firmware is reported by HA as 0×00000026.

Meanwhile, I have another sensor that is further away in the garden. It averages about -85 dBm RX power and remains active. Firmware is reported by HA as 0×0000001f. Both are connected to the same Zigbee router. Hence, I doubt it is a connection quality issue since I should be seeing this with the sensor with a lower LQI, but instead I am seeing this issue with the closer/stronger RX power unit.

I’ve got a total of 7 of these sensors, one of which exhibits this problem (1.0.0.38 firmware). I’m using one ThirdReality Smart Hub Gen2 to connect them to. In my case it is usually overnight that the disconnection occurs. At first I thought the problem was range, but all the sensors are now within a couple of metres of each other. I’ve tried renaming the device with no change. Resetting and re-pairing works, for a while.

I’m new to Zigbee but just wondered: These devices are churned out in their masses. The only difference in them would be their MAC addresses (assuming same firmware)? Is it possible there is some problem with checksum calculation or similar with certain combinations of MAC address? I can post mine if it helps. The alternative is unused firmware memory not being set to known values when updating firmware (not sure what firmware was on it when supplied), but this would again boil down to checksum calculation.

Is there any way to rollback an update, or to change MAC address?

I have one of these sensors, using it with ZHA. It reports 0×00000026 as the firmware version. It is also failing after a day or so. To get it to work again I need to remove and re-insert the battery. The Device is a few meters away from the Zigbee device.

The Zigbee device I am using is a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus and HomeAssistant.

I have the same problem. I have a few of them, most stay connected but others connect for a few minutes then they stop reporting. They are all about the exact same distance from several zigbee repeaters.

Same problem, disconnects after a few days, stays disconnected for days, reconnects for a day, then disconnects again.

I’m experiencing the same issue. I use the sensor with Homey and it disconnects, When that happens, I reset the sensor (long press button) and it reconnects, but after a short while it disconnects again and I have to reset.

Bought 4 and having same problem with 1 that is less than 15 feet from 3reality repeater.

Are having the same issue, works fine for few minutes before the issues starts. I saw in another thread about a new firmware verison, when can that one be expected and will that solve these issues?

I have three of these and every day or so, 1 of these goes offline. the only way I have been able to get them back online is to re-pair. I have about 25 other Zigbee devices and none of them are having any issues. I also have a reliable. Third Reality Night Light. repeater within a few feet of them. The Night Lights do not lose their connectivity.

I am seeing the same behavior with my sensor. Only a battery pull and re-pairing fixes the connection. Would love to but more but this is preventing me from doing so.

I bought four of these and am having the same issue on all of them. Z2M says Firmware ID v1.00.38 (N/A) and installed/availible version 0.0.00-0.0.26. I have several main powered zigbee devices close by in the garden.

I just moved from ZHA to Z2M on HAOS. Moisture value is not being reported while it was reported fine on ZHA. Not sure what to do 🤔

thehaseebahmed Moisture is being reported as Humidity in HAOS at this time until updates are made.

Same problem here. I installed 2 of these a few weeks ago through Z2M. The two stopped working simultaneously, a few hours after adding 2 sonoff TRV valves in the same area. I wonder if it’s a coincidence or not.

But let me physically check my soil as well, Thanks!

UPDATE: Just checked, the soil was dry but pouring 2L of water into it only raised the value from 6 to 14% so something is def. off 🤔
