R1 Motion Sensor Outdoors

I want to detect cars moving in my driveway and therefore need to mount a R1 sensor outdoors. Since the manual says that it should be rain protected, even with the silicon wrapper, I am wondering if it will work inside a plastic box ?
What is the sensor technology? Is it passive IR or an active RF ? Has anyone mounted one outside?

Hi, the R1 sensor uses 5.8 GHz radar. A thin plastic enclosure should generally allow the signal to pass through, although the material and thickness can affect detection performance.

We’ve also successfully tested it with moving cars. We recommend testing the sensor inside your enclosure at the intended installation location before mounting it permanently.
