My Smart Presence Sensor R3, model 3RPL01084Z, is running firmware v1.00.20 and is paired to a Hubitat C-8 (platform 2.5.0.159), which your product page and release notes list as a supported platform.
Two problems:
TVOC does not function on this firmware. Cluster 0×042E reports a constant 0.0 (IEEE-754 float, raw 00000000). The manufacturer-specific configuration attributes 0xF002–0xF006 (detection distance, sensitivity, hold time, TVOC threshold) all return status 0×86 UNSUPPORTED_ATTRIBUTE. Per your release notes, these features arrived in v1.00.35.
The device cannot be updated from v1.00.20 via Hubitat. After each updateFirmware command, the device broadcasts a ZDO Match_Descriptor_req seeking an OTA upgrade server (cluster 0×0019) and retries with backoff at roughly 1, 5, and 10 minutes — then gives up. No image is ever offered. I have verified this across: Hubitat’s built-in Third Reality driver, the community driver, and after a full hub reboot. Behavior is identical in all cases. Hubitat staff (mike.maxwell) has confirmed their hosting only checks for a later version and applies it if one exists — and no “firmware is up to date” response ever arrives, indicating no matching image on their side.
I note your public firmware index (https://tr-zha.s3.amazonaws.com/firmware.json) lists one R3 image: v1.00.35, imageType 54211, manufacturerId 5127. I also note that for another of your products (3RSP02064Z) the same index carries two imageTypes split by the unit’s current file version — if the R3 has a similar early-hardware split and v1.00.20 units request a different imageType, that would explain the silence.
Separately, your own forum staff has stated (“Update does not seem to take” thread) that Hubitat OTA is not supported for 3R devices — which contradicts your release-notes page listing Hubitat as an OTA platform. I’d appreciate knowing which statement is correct.
My questions:
How does an owner whose only hub is a Hubitat C-8 update an R3 from v1.00.20? I do not have Home Assistant, a Zigbee dongle, or a Third Reality hub.
If there is no such path: this unit’s advertised TVOC feature is non-functional and cannot be made functional with the equipment your marketing lists as compatible. I’d like to resolve that under warranty.
I can supply full Hubitat logs, including raw Zigbee frames, for any of the above.
